Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh rules
Marriage Registration Across Delhi NCR
Delhi NCR spans three jurisdictions with three different marriage registration laws, portals and timelines. Where you file can change how long your certificate takes by weeks — so it is worth understanding the differences before you apply anywhere.
- Varies by state
- e-District, e-Disha and IGRS
Three states, three systems
| Delhi | Haryana | Uttar Pradesh | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Covers | All 11 Delhi districts | Gurugram, Faridabad | Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad |
| Law | CRM Order, 2014 | Registration of Marriages Act, 2008 | Marriage Registration Rules, 2017 |
| Portal | e-District | e-Disha marriage portal | IGRS |
| Officer | SDM of the district | Registrar of Marriages / Tehsildar | Sub-Registrar |
| Witnesses | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| Same-day option | Yes, Tatkal | No equivalent counter | No equivalent counter |
| Deadline after wedding | Flexible | 90 days, then late fee | Flexible |
One thing is constant across all three: a court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 is central law, so the 30-day notice and the three-witness requirement apply identically everywhere in NCR.
Which jurisdiction should you file in?
You do not get a free choice — jurisdiction follows residence and, for registration, the place of solemnisation. But many NCR couples genuinely qualify in more than one place: one spouse in Delhi and one in Gurugram, or a wedding in Ghaziabad and a home in Noida. Where a real choice exists, these are the factors that matter:
- Urgency. If you need a certificate within days and the marriage has already happened, Delhi’s Tatkal facility is the only genuine same-day route in NCR.
- How old the marriage is. Haryana’s 90-day rule makes an older marriage more cumbersome there than in Delhi or UP.
- Aadhaar consistency. UP’s automated verification is unforgiving of mismatches. If your documents disagree with each other, Delhi’s counter-based process gives you more room to explain.
- Appointment availability. This changes month to month and is often the real deciding factor.
Where we work

Services we handle in Delhi NCR
Court marriage
The civil route: solemnise your marriage before a Marriage Officer, no ceremony required.
02Marriage registration
Already married? Get the government certificate that banks, embassies and passport offices accept.
03Tatkal / same-day
The Delhi Government’s urgent facility, explained honestly — including what it cannot do.
04Special Marriage Act
India’s secular marriage law — for any two consenting adults, whatever their faith.
05Hindu Marriage Act
For weddings already solemnised by Hindu rites — no notice period, often same day.
06Arya Samaj marriage
Vedic rites the same day, plus the government registration that actually makes it provable.
07Nikah registration
Your nikahnama proves the marriage. State registration turns it into a certificate the world accepts.
08Christian marriage
Church solemnisation, banns, the register entry — and the state certificate you still need.
09Inter-caste marriage
Legal in every respect. Handled discreetly, with protection options if you need them.
10Inter-religion marriage
Marry without either of you converting. The Special Marriage Act was written for this.
11NRI marriage
Short trip, hard deadline. Built around a flight date rather than a leisurely timeline.
12Foreigner marriage
Embassy NOC, visa status, the 30-day residence rule — handled end to end.
13Apostille & attestation
Making an Indian marriage certificate usable abroad — MEA apostille or embassy attestation.
Questions about Delhi NCR
Can we choose which NCR city to register our marriage in?
Only where you legitimately qualify in more than one — jurisdiction follows residence and the place of solemnisation. Many NCR couples do qualify in two places, in which case timing and document consistency decide which is better.
Which NCR jurisdiction is fastest?
Delhi, if the marriage has already been solemnised and you need it urgently, because of the Tatkal facility. For a Special Marriage Act court marriage the 30-day notice applies identically everywhere.
Is a certificate from one NCR state valid in the others?
Yes. A marriage certificate issued by any state authority in India is valid throughout the country and abroad, subject to apostille or attestation for overseas use.
Do the witness requirements differ across NCR?
Registration needs two witnesses in all three jurisdictions. A Special Marriage Act court marriage needs three anywhere in India.
